“Sanctuary Hospice: Favorite Recipes of Families, Friends & Staff” will feature up to 800 recipes and be available at Celebration Village in 2013 for $25.
But first, it needs some recipes.
“The first cookbook Sanctuary Hospice did was in 2004,” said Linda Gholston, executive director. “We still sell some of those, but we’ve gotten requests for a second one.”
All proceeds from the new cookbook will go to the Sanctuary Hospice House to help with patient care, Gholston said.
“We’ve gotten feedback from area chefs and restaurants and they are going to submit some recipes for us, so we’re excited about that,” said Heather Palmer, community relations director for Sanctuary Hospice.
Palmer said the 12-person cookbook committee started working in August on the new venture.
“It was just time for a new cookbook,” she said. “People had more stories to tell. Sometimes, it’s easier to tell stories through food.”
Palmer said the group has already received about 200 recipes and the goal is about 600 more. All recipes are welcome, including those for entrees, vegetables and side dishes, desserts, cookies and candies, beverages, breads, appetizers, soups and salads.
“There are sure to be many favorites shared that are duplicated,” she said. “Please do not let that keep you from sharing yours.”
If a recipe is personal to you, Palmer said, you’re invited to add a quick note about it. For example, “This was my grandmother’s favorite side dish. She always made it at Christmas and it was a must for church potlucks.”
Gholston said the goal is to put this cookbook in a type of three-ring binder.
“That way, every year at Celebration Village, we can sell a packet of new recipes to be added to the binder,” Gholston said.
