Former Itawamba Community College defensive back Ashton Ballard will look to help Valdosta State win its third Division II national championship in football today, in a game against Winston-Salem State at Braley Municipal Stadium in Florence, Ala.
Kickoff is at noon and will air on ESPN2.
Ballard, from Atlanta, is a backup safety.
Winston-Salem (14-0) would be the first historically black college to win a D-II football title.
Valdosta State (11-2) has won nine in a row after a 2-2 start.
