Highway 78 soon will be fully upgraded to interstate standards which will allow it to be converted into Interstate 22, MDOT said in a news release.
Hill Brothers Construction Company Inc. is the contractor with a contract of $18,996 million. The project began in March and is expected to be completed in November 2013. The project is about 35 percent complete. The contractor expects to have the work on the outside lanes complete near the first of the year.
“We are looking forward to this reconstruction of the highway and providing a safe and smooth surface for the traveling public in Union County,” Northern District Transportation Commissioner Mike Tagert said. “It is very important that motorists slow down as they approach the work zone and watch out for crews and equipment in the area.”
MDOT urges patience and caution during construction. Traffic delays could occur, and alternate routes should be considered, MDOT recommended.
