JACKSON — The Gartin Justice Building, which houses the Mississippi appellate courts, has been evacuated after a bomb was called in Monday.

Beverly Pettigrew Kraft, a spokeswoman for the courts, says the clerk's office received a call about 9:12 a.m. and the building was evacuated. Local and state authorities were investigating. A bomb sniffing dog was going through the building.

The building houses the Mississippi Supreme Court, the state Court of Appeals and their support staffs. It is located across from the state Capitol near downtown Jackson.

Last week, the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency said threats were called in to courthouses in 29 of the state's 82 counties. No bombs were found.
