A Meridian man walking on Highway 78 near the Peppertown exit was struck by a vehicle Thursday night.

According to Itawamba County Sheriff Chris Dickinson, the man apparently stepped into traffic on 78 around 6:45 p.m. at mile marker 101.

Mississippi Highway Patrolman Ray Hall said John King Yarbrough, 70, was killed in the incident.

Hall said Yarbrough apparently left his car on the side of the road and was attempting to cross 78 and walked into oncoming traffic.
