Ole Miss was 0-6 in SEC openers under Kennedy and had not won a league debut since a 71-61 win at Alabama under Rod Barnes in 2006.
Last year the Rebels lost 81-55 at LSU.
Ole Miss opened the season on the road for the 12th time in 15 season.
Player of the game
Marshall Henderson entered SEC play on a bit of a 3-point hot streak having hit 44.8 percent from the arc over his previous five games.
Even in games when Henderson has shot a low percentage, he's managed to hit big shots. That was true earlier this season against Rutgers and Middle Tennessee.
Henderson was 3 for 12 from the arc against Tennessee and has made at least three 3-pointers in 11 of his 14 games.
“I just had to come out and be more aggressive and get my team involved. If they weren't making shots, I had to take over like I was supposed to. Coach just told me to keep attacking the screen, because it was going to be a physical game.” – Ole Miss point guard Jarvis Summers
The Rebels are at home Saturday night at 7 against No. 10 Missouri. The Tigers, playing in their first conference game as SEC members, defeated Alabama 84-68 in Columbia on Tuesday night, pulling away down the stretch.
