JACKSON — Mississippi's senior U.S. senator, Thad Cochran, is making some staff changes, less than a month after becoming the top Republican on the Senate Agriculture Committee.

Cochran said Friday that Hernando native T.A. Hawks is moving to a new job as Republican staff director for the Agriculture Committee. Hawks has been chief of staff in Cochran's office since January 2009.

Cochran's new chief of staff is Bruce Evans, who had been Republican staff director for the Senate Appropriations Committee since 2006. Evans is a native of Olympia, Wash., and worked two years for the U.S. Commerce Department before starting work on Capitol Hill in 1989.
