CLINTON – Addie Forbus scored a state-record 231 goals during her high school soccer career, but Amory’s shooting star will tell you wins mean a lot more.

The Ole Miss signee was a tad disappointed after Saturday’s 18th annual Mississippi Association of Coaches All-Star Game at Clinton High School – her North team lost 2-1 to the South and she was held scoreless.

“I just want to win,” she said. “That means more than ... a goal.”

Forbus missed on her lone shot attempt in the first half and had a couple of potential assists not converted. Still, she enjoyed the experience of playing in her final high school match.

“It’s cliché, but it was bittersweet,” she said. “It was sad putting on this jersey for the last time. Now it’s time to move on to Ole Miss and set new records.”

The South scored its go-ahead goal in the 72nd minute on a penalty kick by Pascagoula’s Kim Armstrong. Her kick zipped just to the right of Tupelo’s Kat Stratton, the North keeper.

Stratton, who recorded nine saves in the match, admitted that she was upset with the penalty call. “I was too frustrated (on the PK),” she said. “The ref on the side said there was no foul.”

Madison Central’s Marion Crowder scored the North’s lone goal in the 32nd minute. The South responded in the 34th on a header by Greene County’s Darby Nettles.

“I thought when we played together, we dominated,” said Tupelo/North midfielder Abby Phillips. “We didn’t finish our chances.”

(B) South 2, North 1: Amory’s Garrett Trautman knocked in a header in the fourth minute to give the North a 1-0 lead, but that was his team’s lone scoring highlight.

The South responded with back-to-back goals by Pascagoula’s Mitchell Cecatiello and Bay High’s Colby Krost to give their team a 2-1 halftime lead.

Oxford’s Hunter Stewart fired a shot just off the mark in the final minute that would have tied the score.

Trautman was honored postgame with the William Winter Scholar Athlete Award.
