STARKVILLE — A federal grant will help the city of Starkville install warning sirens at five locations.

Officials tell WTVA-TV in Tupelo that the Federal Emergency Management Agency has provided $96,613 and a 5 percent match by the city will cover the cost of purchasing and replacing sirens for the city's early warning siren project.

Some of the current sirens have been malfunctioning over recent years.

The city's chief administrative officer, Lynn Spruill, says the city will have totally updated new technical sirens.

Work on installing the new sirens should start within a month.
