TUPELO – The City Council got its first peek at proposed nightclub and alcohol ordinances at a Thursday evening work session.

The nightclub ordinance addresses overcrowding, security and alcohol requirements; no outside alcohol will be permitted in nightclubs under the proposed law. Nightclubs are defined as establishments that offer entertainment in addition to food and drink.

Under the draft alcohol ordinance, restaurants without beer or alcohol permits would retain the BYOB option.

Both items will be on the study agenda for the Tuesday council meeting. If the council chooses, the issue would come up for a vote at the March 5 council meeting and could go into affect as early as April.
