• Southern Miss completed a season-opening sweep of Missouri on Sunday, winning 6-1 behind a six-run outburst in the eighth inning. The Golden Eagles visit Alabama on Tuesday.

• The Northeast Mississippi baseball team opened its season on Sunday with two easy wins, 10-0 over Southeastern (Iowa) and 10-1 over Arkansas Baptist.

• Courtney Force raced to victory in Funny Car at the NHRA Winternationals on Sunday.

Shawn Langdon (Top Fuel) and Vincent Nobile (Pro Stock) were also winners at Pomona.
