TUPELO – The Yocona Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America on Tuesday night honored U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker as its 2013 Distinguished Citizen.

The award was presented at a fundraising dinner at the BancorpSouth Conference Center.

Wicker, a Pontotoc native and Tupelo resident, is a former state senator and 13-year member of the U.S. House of Representatives who has served in the Senate for five years. He was elected to his first full term last year.

The Yocona Area Council provides Scouting programs for 12 Northeast Mississippi counties, serving over 4,000 youths.
