The "I Care for Animals" tag allows people to purchase a special license plate that helps homeless animals in the state.
The license plate program is in its ninth year and has funded 61 organizations throughout the state. The program is administered through the Mississippi Board of Animal Health.
The Oxford shelter, founded in 1982, has used the funds to offset costs of spaying and neutering for adopted animals.
Shelter representative Sarah Layton tells the Oxford Eagle that the adoption fee covers most of the cost but it doesn't always cover all expenses such as food, medications and veterinary bills.
