Babb was nominated by Tupelo Mayor Jack Reed Jr., who announced his nomination during an afternoon press conference at City Hall. Babb fills the seat vacated when Amy Heyer's term expired on March 2. He will serve a five-year term.
Babb, 31, works as an accountant and is a shareholder in Eaton, Babb & Smith, P.A., in Tupelo. He and his wife Lauren have two daughters, Cate and Ava.
Reed said one of the biggest issues facing the school district is to attract and retain young families. He said Babb will help with that because he is in a similar situation and will be able to relate to those families. One of Babb's daughters is a student at Carver Elementary and the other is nearly school-age.
"He is exactly the age of the other young parents with elementary age children," Reed said in a press release. "He and wife, Lauren, are already strong proponents of the TPSD with a daughter at Carver Elementary."
