STARKVILLE — A Jackson man has filed a lawsuit alleging police brutality by two Oktibbeha County Sheriff's deputies.

The lawsuit was filed in Oktibbeha County Circuit Court last month on behalf of Maurice Washington, a member of the Marine Corps Reserves.

The lawsuit alleges police brutality and excessive force. It says Washington was shocked with a stun gun while handcuffed.

Attorney Carlos Moore says a video shows the incident. The lawsuit says deputies stormed an apartment and demanded identification. It says deputies attacked Washington when he reached for his wallet.

The sheriff's office referred questions to the lawyer for the Oktibbeha County Board of Supervisors, who declined to comment on pending litigation.
