CALHOUN CITY - Senior shortstop Taylor Moore's leaping catch saved the day in the Lady Trojan's 1-0 win over the Houston Lady Hilltoppers on Saturday.
Shelby Whitt drew a two-out walk to load the bases before Raven Haynes ripped a line drive towards left when an extrodinary leaping catch from Moore robbed her of an potential extra base and allowed the Lady Trojans to escape the inning with no damage done.
Raven Nabors reached on a fielder's choice and came around to score on a two-out double to center by Morgan Edwards in the top of the seventh. Houston put the tying run on third in bottom half of the inning, but Lisa Wells induced the final two Lady Toppers batters to fly out to help seal the 1-0 victory.
Cameron McCormick and Morgan Edwards each reached on a double while Ashley Hubbard reached on a triple for the only Lady Trojans' hits in the game.
Wells picked up the win giving up five hits and only issuing one walk. Haley Gravat gave up three hits, walked four and struck out 10 batters in a losing effort.
In other tournament action, Moore went 3-for-3 with a walk, two singles, an in-the-park home run, scored three runs, and drove in two more in the Lady Trojans 12-1 victory over Noxubee County.
Bruce is scheduled to travel to Hamilton today and Water Valley on Monday before closing out the season with Senior night on April 2 against Vardaman.
