CALHOUN CITY - In the final game of the Calhoun City Tournament the Vardaman Lady Rams took advantage of a late-game error to pick up a 2-1 win over the Calhoun City Lady Wildcats.
Calhoun City took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Taylor Rogers scored when Kaitlyn Doles grounded out to the shortstop. Vardaman rallied to tie the game in the top of the second when Charlsie Moore scored on an single by Casey High.
Each team had their chances to break the 1-1 tie over the next four and a half innings of play, but neither team could take advantage of the opportunities. Vardaman finally cashed in on an one-out error by the Lady Cats to take a lead in the top of the seventh.
High reached on a single and scored when Summer Kilgore reached on a throwing error.
Calhoun City went three-up, three-down in the bottom half of the seventh allowing the Lady Rams to pick up the 2-1 win over their county rival.
High went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles, scored a run, and drove another while Greta Parker tripled for the Lady Rams. Rogers had a single for Calhoun City' lone hit in the contest. Kelsey Nelson gave up one hit and struck out eight to get the win while Doles gave up four hits and struck out nine batters in the loss.
In other tournament action, Trisha Williams had a pair of singles while Parker, Nelson, and Kilgore each added a single to the Lady Rams 6-0 victory over Water Valley.
Nelson gave up two hits in struck out five in the win.
On Monday the Lady Rams dropped a 16-5 region decision to the surging Houlka Lady Wildcats.
