TUPELO – Mayor Jack Reed Jr. was among eight honorees at the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority’s recent Southeast regional meeting in Memphis.

Mayor Reed received the honor after City Council member Nettie Davis, a member of the predominantly black sorority, nominated him for his work to improve health of Tupelo residents.

Reed’s leadership helped the city in a two-year effort to receive the “healthiest city in Mississippi” designation in 2012 from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Mississippi.
