NEW ALBANY - People used to come to Hamilton Hardware on West Bankhead Street for knives and nails, ropes and rulers.
This weekend they'll come to see its transformation to a mix of commercial and residential space that make use of downtown's multiple advantages.
The open house will begin Friday at 9 a.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by New Albany Main Street Association. It will continue 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday and again 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
Guests can meet with Joel and Donna Bennett, owners of the property and the project's developers, and see a continuous pictorial chronology of the renovation process.
Two highly appointed loft apartments - 1,000 and 1,200 square feet - will be on display during the open house. They feature such amenities as granite countertops, marble and tile baths, original brick walls and heart pine floors, floating glass-block interior walls, 10-foot ceilings and balconies.
Guests may also view four additional units and a penthouse suite, planned for completion later this year and next.
Three-story Hamilton Place is already home to four established firms - Crye-Leike Realtors, Snelling Staffing, Rodampéo Salon and the district office of the United Methodist Church.
Another 1,200 square feet of commercial space is available for lease, and several of the firms already in the building will participate in the open house.
