Looking back: The Rebels went 3-2 for the week, sweeping a pair of non-conference home games against New Orleans, the latter running a win streak to eight games.

That came to an end Friday night when South Carolina jumped on starter Drew Pomeranz early. The Gamecocks won the first two games of the SEC series, and Ole Miss took the Sunday game 6-1.

- Looking ahead: Ole Miss plays against Mississippi State Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Trustmark Park in Pearl in the Governor’s Cup. The game does not count in the SEC standings and is the only mid-week action for Ole Miss.

After two straight home series the Rebels are back on the SEC road this weekend at Florida.

- Rankings: The Rebels are No. 17 in the latest Baseball America Top 25.

- In the SEC: The series loss dropped the Rebels to third place in the Western Division, one game behind LSU and 11⁄2 games behind Arkansas. The Rebels are two games ahead of Alabama and Auburn, who occupy the fourth spot at 7-8.

- MVP: Sophomore first baseman Matt Smith was 6-for-11 with an RBI and two runs scored against South Carolina.
