MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Ryne Wilhite, a Faulkner University football player from New Albany, died along with a teammate in an accident early Tuesday morning a few miles from Maplesville, Ala.

Wilhite, 19, and a fellow offensive lineman, Teirson Hollis, 20, were killed instantly when an SUV driven by Wilhite struck an 18-wheeler at 5:10 a.m., according to the accident report.

A news release from Faulkner said the players were returning from a visit to a friend in Tuscaloosa.

“I’ve never been through anything like this – it hurts so much,’’ Faulkner head coach Gregg Baker said in a statement. “T and Ryne were both great kids, two wonderful Christian young men.”

Wilhite played at Northeast Mississippi Community College last season and began this semester at Faulkner, which recently completed spring practice. Hollis, a native of Douglasville, Ga., had been with the program since its inception in 2007.

Funeral arrangements for Wilhite were pending.
