AMORY - The April meeting of the Flower Lovers Garden Club was held on April 20 at the Amory Municipal Library. President Kelli Atkins opened the meeting and presented Melissa Sierra, who is a master gardener and a club member. She gave an interesting program on arranging flowers including tools for that art. Sierra gave tips on using items on hand to create an attractive arrangement with little effort, proving "little is more." Members found the suggestions helpful with many ideas that can be incorporated when preparing for the flower show on Thursday, May 28, at the Gilmore Foundation Conference Center on Gilmore Drive. Bonnie McCary is the flower show chairman. The show will be open to the public from 2-4 p.m. Admission is free and everyone is invited.

Another event sponsored by the flower club is the second Spring Tour of Gardens on May 16. Tickets are $10 are may be purchased from any club member. Tickets are also available at Backyard Bushes or at Amory Lawn and Pool. Yards on the tour include Mrs. Charles Tubb, 200 Gilmore Drive; Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Lovvorn, 701 Fifth Avenue South; Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Watson, 501 South Blvd. and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Blount, 104 Seventh Ave. South. Civic Improvement Chairman Dorothy Poore gave members an update on the this year's railroad festival. Members assisted city workers in cleanup work at the Welcome to Amory signs,Memorial Park, and Boulevard Drive.

Tip of the month: It is time to clear to be ready to plant annuals and perennials as well as vegetables. Have the soil ready so when danger of frost is past, the seeds and transplants can be planted. After planting, top dress with compost or use a granular fertilizer. Supplement every three weeks with an organic liquid food.
