State inmates

leaving jail

PHILADELPHIA - State prisoners will be removed from the Neshoba County jail under a federal judge's order to reduce the numbers of inmates in local lockup.

Sheriff Donnie Adkins told the board of supervisors this year that the federal judge found the jail population, at times, exceeded its court ordered capacity of 58.

Ronald Welch, a prisoners rights attorney, said Neshoba County's jail population exceeded 58 on 19 of 28 days in February.

The jail had been approved for 10 state inmates.
