RIDGELAND - For Hamilton's three fastpitch seniors, getting back next season wasn't a consolation after getting swept by Loyd Star in the 2009 MHSAA fastpitch finals at Freedom Ridge Park.
Kelle West, Sydney Sanders and Miranda McCormick played their last games in a Hamilton uniform.
Miranda McCormick, who transfered from Hatley three seasons ago, minced no words about how she wanted to end her career.
"Our ultimate goal was to get to the state championship," McCormick said. "I'm going to miss softball. It's one of my things. I just wanted a state championship, but couldn't do it."
Sydney Sanders made it through a few words as she tried hold back tears.
"We're like sisters," she said. "I'm going to miss everybody. I'm going to miss playing. We all played tee-ball together."
West, who is considering a fastpitch scholarship offer from Northeast Community College, said next season will be strange watching from the stands without a Lady Lions uniform on.
"I'm gonna miss everybody on the team," West said. "We've played together ever since we were little. I grew up playing softball with this same group and it's gonna be weird not being with them next year."
