TUPELO FILM FESTIVAL: 2009 Tupelo Film Festival will be Thursday, May 14; Friday, May 15; and Saturday, May 16 at the Lyric Theatre. Features film screenings, workshops and more. Screenings range from free to $5. Workshops are $15 students/$20 adults. Complete schedule at www.tupelo.net/filmfest.

PIED PIPER PLAYHOUSE: Pied Piper Playhouse will present performances of "Nuts," a mini-musical about the Circle of Life, and "Who, Me? Yes, You!" a comedy/drama about social responsibility, at 7 p.m. Friday May 15; at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, May 16; and at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 17 at Milam Elementary School auditorium. Tickets are $5 for adults; $3 for children.

PLANTERSVILLE DAY IN PARK: The Plantersville Volunteer Fire Department and Youth Council are sponsoring the annual Day in the Park Saturday, May 16, in the Plantersville Middle School gymnasium. Hours: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Food, fun, activities for all ages, entertainment, bake sale and candidate speaking. Call Plantersville Town Hall, 844-2012, for information.

DANCE HAPPENING: Tupelo Academy of Dance Arts' Dance Happening 2009 will be at 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Saturday, May 16 at Tupelo Civic Auditorium. The 2 p.m. show features younger students in "Disney Princesses," along with advanced dance presentations. The 6:30 p.m. show features ballet,jazz, hip-hop, senior salutes and lyrical productions by older students and Tupelo Ballet Company dancers. $5 adults/ $3 students. (662) 844-4352.

CANCER FUNDRAISER: The Tupelo Buffalo Park and Zoo will host a fundraiser Saturday, May 16 to benefit the American Cancer Society. Money from the trail rides will benefit the ACS. QUEEN FOR A KING PAGEANT: The Elvis Presley Festival will host the Queen for a King Pageant at 6 p.m. Friday, May 29 in the Lawhon Elementary auditorium. Open to female contestants age 21 and under; categories for each age group. Applications may be picked up at the Downtown Tupelo Main Street Association Office, 108 South Broadway Street or by calling 841-6598 or by visiting www.tupeloelvisfestival.com. Deadline is May 22. VERONA HERITAGE FESTIVAL: The Verona Heritage Festival will be from 10 a.m. until 6 p.. Saturday, June 6 at College and Main streets. Pancake breakfast from 6 until 10 a.m., opening ceremony, motorcycle poker run, pet parade, Vernon and Gladys Presley's marriage re-enactment, entertainment, food.
