Homecoming set for July 4

Special to the Chickasaw Journal

HOUSTON - The traditional block party, Houston Homecoming, will have a special impact this year as it will be held on Saturday, July 4.

"Usually, we have it the Saturday before the fourth," said committee member Robin Mathis. "But this year the Saturday is on the fourth."

Committees are working to make the event a big success and have lined up entertainment to include Houston's Molly May, Elvis impersonator Mitchell Johnson of Vardaman, gospel group Hearts in Service and Loose Gravel from New Albany.

Homecoming is a celebration of small town life held on the Houston Courthouse Square and has served as a vehicle to encourage former residents to return home to visit. The festivities will kick off with a Veteran's parade at 4:45 p.m. and entertainment will follow. A fireworks show will cap the evening at 9:15 p.m.

Everyone is invited to come out for an afternoon and evening of fun and fellowship. Bring lawn chairs and "set a spell."
