JACKSON - State Superintendent of Education Hank Bounds is a contender for the post of state Commissioner of Higher Education, several Capitol sources have told the Daily Journal.

The College Board's "preferred candidate" for the position, as well as its choice for University of Mississippi chancellor, are scheduled to be announced Tuesday. The higher education commissioner is chief executive of the eight-university system and all university presidents report to him. The post is curently held on an interim basis by retired University of Southern Mississippi President Aubrey Lucas.
