JACKSON - Clarksdale attorney and businessman Bill Luckett is taking a first step in what's expected to be his 2011 campaign for Mississippi governor.

Luckett, who owns a blues club and a restaurant in Clarksdale with actor Morgan Freeman, announced Thursday that he is forming a political action committee called Progress for Mississippi.

Luckett said the PAC is designed to raise money to elect a Democratic governor. Republican Gov. Haley Barbour is limited to two terms and can't run again in 2011.

While Luckett did not specify that the money would be for his own candidacy, he has been hiring campaign staff members.
