AMORY - City officials wasted no time in getting down to business after being sworn into office Monday morning.

In a special called meeting of the mayor and Board of Aldermen on Monday afternoon, the board appointed Glenn Howell of Amory as the city's new clerk and tax collector. He fills the vacancy created by the retirement of longtime city clerk Suzanne Mobley at the end of June.

The clerk's position had previously been an elected position, but through the action of the last board of aldermen and through approval from the state, the position was changed to an appointed position.

The newly elected board of aldermen made the appointment Monday after earlier interviews with candidates for the job.
