STARKVILLE - Mississippi State running back Anthony Dixon was arrested Saturday.
The specific charge was not known at press time.
A team spokesman said coach Dan Mullen will decide on a punishment for Dixon, a senior, after gathering more facts.
Dixon’s 2,603 career rushing yards rank fourth on the school’s all-time list and are 609 shy of Jerious Norwood’s school record.
Last week, Dixon was a second-team preseason All-SEC selection by the league’s coaches. He figures to play a prominent role in the spread option offense Mullen brought with him from Florida.
Dixon is the fourth Bulldog arrested since Mullen was hired in December.
Junior college transfer Maurice Langston, who enrolled at State in January, was arrested in Hattiesburg in February and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. Returning receiver Arceto Clark was arrested in Starkville in March for petty larceny.
Both are still suspended from the team.
Signee Dennis Thames, a defensive back from Louisville, was arrested last month in Philadelphia for public intoxication.
