Tombigbee Electric Power Association says 2,000-3,000 homes in the Tupelo area lost power Tuesday night.

General manager Bill Long says a raccoon caused a short circuit, sending an area from Belden to Bissell into darkness.

The outage was reported around 10:15 p.m.

Long said before 11 p.m. that it would take approximately 30 minutes to get electricity restored to customers.
