WASHINGTON – Rep. Travis Childers of Booneville was voting on the U.S. House floor mid-afternoon Wednesday, when his staff and others in the Longworth Office Building were evacuated by a “suspicious package” alert.

“I just grabbed everything off my desk and went home to work,” said Brad Morris, Childers’ chief of staff.

The alert was sounded about 3:40 p.m. EDT, and Morris said he later learned the suspected package was discovered on the same floor as Childers’ office in the building near the U.S. Capitol.
