TUPELO – An early morning shooting on Ida Street left one man in critical condition.

Tupelo Police Capt. Bart Aguirre said officers were sent to an apartment at 1513 Ida St. about 2:15 a.m. Monday.

The person who rented an apartment there told police he shot a man who was breaking into his house, Aguirre said.

Mario Dillard, 21, of Tupelo, was identified as the intruder, Aguirre said. He underwent surgery at North Mississippi Medical Center and was listed in critical but stable condition, Aguirre said.

Police have not released the name of the resident.
