OXFORD — University of Mississippi students and football fans might want to take note: Speeding tickets could get more expensive in Oxford.

The Board of Aldermen this week began considering whether to tack an additional $2 onto all speeding tickets and other misdemeanor fines, except for parking tickets. The extra money would go to Lafayette County Crime Stoppers to help solve local cases.

Oxford Police Chief Mike Martin said officers write about 10 to 20 tickets and arrest three to five people every day for misdemeanors. He said an extra $2 for each violation would add up over time.
