Glenda Hughes

SPARTA - Glenda Marie Gregory Hughes, 34, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009. She was born Feb. 23, 1975, in Chickasaw County. She was a homemaker and a member of Amity Baptist Church.

Services will be at 5 p.m. today at Amity Baptist Church with Bro. Scott Griffin officiating. Southern Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include her husband, John G. Hughes; her mother, Wanda Atkinson (Scott) of Sparta; three sisters, Brenda Ferguson (Scott) of Pontotoc, Michelle Reynolds (Mitch) of Woodland and Teresa Gregory (B.J. McCowan) of Sparta; one brother, Calvin Gregory of Sparta; her stepgrandparents, Gerry and Jo Atkinson; her parents-in-law, Gus and Mary Hughes of Sparta; her brother-in-law, Linn Hughes (Darlene) of Sparta; her sister-in-law, Ellen Allen (Johnny) of Houston; a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Johnny Gregory; and her grandparents, Rex and Bertha Brassfield, and Cecil and Helen Gregory.

Pallbearers will be her nephews: Dewayne Brassfield, Jonathan Hughes, Brandon Hughes, Mitchell Gregory, Justin Cross and Jeremy Murphree. Honorary pallbearers will be Andy Hughes, Malachi Hughes, Bubba Allen, Christopher Reynolds, Darin Ferguson, Colorado Ferguson, Randy Gregory, Chase McCown, Damien Paul Williams and John Michael Gregory.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Amity Baptist Church, 2468 Hwy 389, Woodland, MS 39776 to help with funeral expenses.

Antonio Samuel

WEST POINT - Antonio Rome Samuel, 38, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mt. Hermon Missionary Baptist Church in West Point. Burial will be in Gibbs Cemetery in West Point. Carter's Mortuary Services is in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. today.

Judy King

BOONEVILLE - Judy Ann King, 60, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo after an extended illness. She was a faithful member of the Smith Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. She was employed at the Thrasher School Cafeteria and previously worked at Brown Shoe Company. She enjoyed spending her time going to yard sales, working in her garden and cooking, but her favorite pastime was attending her grandson, Jesse's, ball games.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at McMillan Funeral Home Chapel in Booneville with Bro. Tim Blakney officiating. Burial will be in the Smith Chapel Cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Ray King; her parents, Luther ad Virginia Nichols Whitley; two sons, Randy King (Cara) and Kendall King (Tabitha), all of Booneville; two sisters, Bobbie Hughes (Carlie) of Fulton and Helen Adams (Ricky) of Booneville; one brother, Luke Whitley of Booneville; six grandchildren, Miranda Clark, Jonathan King, Holly King, Cassie Gray, Jesse King and Jake King; two great-grandchildren, Landon and Aubrie Clark; three sisters-in-laws, Marca Kendrick, Margie George and Guinn Creekmore; one brother-in-law, David King (Gayla); and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, James Rodney King.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today and until service time Wednesday.

William Brown

HOLLY SPRINGS - William Ray Brown, 72, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Collierville, Tenn.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Church of the Living Gospel at Watson. Burial will be in Green Leaf Cemetery at Coldwater. Serenity Funeral Home of Holly Springs is in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today with the family hour from 5 to 6 p.m. today at the church.

Henretta Thomas

TUPELO - Henretta Thomas died Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, at her daughter's home in Amory. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Grayson-Porter's Mortuary in Tupelo.

Deborah Wolfe

SALTILLO - Deborah Wolfe, 52, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, at North Mississippi Medical Center after an extended illness. She was born Jan. 3, 1957, in Detroit, Mich. She was a very active member of the Saltillo Senior Center. She loved roses, love songs, playing dominoes and living her life. She was known for her smile.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at The Saltillo Chapel of W.E. Pegues with the Rev. James Richardson officiating. Burial will be in Tupelo Memorial Park.

Survivors include her husband of 30 years, Steven Wolfe of Saltillo; two daughters, Edie Wolfe of Hazel Park, Mich., and Rebecca Wolfe of Saltillo; one son, David Wolfe of Saltillo; three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Helen Holmberg, and one grandchild.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the the North Lee Civitan Club.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at the Saltillo Funeral Home.

SOMERVILLE, Tenn. - Lorene Austin Edwards, 79, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, at Covington Manor Retirement Center in Covington, Tenn.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Peebles West Chapel in Oakland, Tenn. Burial will be in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery in Oakland.

Visitation will be from noon to service time today at the funeral home.

Hazel Sisco

TUPELO - Hazel Sisco, 89, was received by the Lord Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, at Sanctuary Hospice House after a lengthy illness. She was born March 17, 1920, in Huntsville, Ala., to Frank and Mattie Bragg. She was a member of Wildwood Baptist Church. She was a devoted homemaker who enjoyed fishing, working in her garden and spending time with her family.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Huntsville, Ala., with the Rev. Lewis Bridges officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Huntsville. Lee Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of the services.

Survivors include one son, Douglas Leon (Gladys) Sisco of Rogersville; one daughter, Patsy Sisco (Bill) Duncan of Belden; one sister, Kitty Bragg Sisco of Huntsville; one brother, Solan Bragg of Gainesville, Texas; one grandson, Brent (Amy) Freiermuth of Florence, Ala.; one great-grandson, Ryan Freiermuth of Florence, Ala.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 51 years, Edgar L. Sisco; one sister, Mae Pylant; and one brother, Earnest Bragg.

Pallbearers will be David Sisco, Bobby Sisco, Chuck Sisco, Bobby Leslie, Danny Williams and Carl Owens. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Collier and Clifton Sisco.

Visitation will be Wednesday from noon until service time at the church.

OKOLONA - Georgia "Snorter" Box Paul, 83, died Monday, Aug. 17, 2009, at the Traceway Retirement Home in Tupelo. She was a cook and a homemaker.

Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Ann Jones (Russell) of Okolona and Patricia Paul of Guntown; two sons, James Richard Box (Joan) of Chicago and Willie Lee Box of Okolona; five sisters, Betty Hoskin and Geneva Gathings (John) of Aberdeen, Sarah Hykes (Gene) and Annie Bell Gathings of St. Louis, and Della Traylor of Gary, Ind.; two brothers, Arther Evans and Wardell Evans of Aberdeen; 10 grandchildren, 11-great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren.
