JACKSON — A Benton man has become the eighth suspect in a case accusing Mississippi Department of Transportation employees of corruption.

Agents with the state Auditor's Office arrested Dennis Keith Pierce on Monday. State Auditor Stacey Pickering said Pierce has been indicted on charges of conspiracy, fraudulently obtaining public funds and making false entries in public records. He's accused of receiving payments for false invoices submitted to MDOT. Pickering said his agency seeks to recover $444. Pierce's arraignment is set for Aug. 24. He has been released on bond.

Seven other people were arrested in the probe last week.
