LAUREL — Here's one prom where no one will have to sneak a few bucks to a 21-year-old to buy beer.

The southern Mississippi city of Laurel is hosting a "Seniors in Paradise" prom this Friday for adults 50 or older.

Lula Cooley, the city's planning and retirement director, says the dance will give people a chance to relive their high school days — or to make up for never having attended the prom in the first place.

Cooley says the event is being held in the afternoon "because a lot of seniors don't drive at night." She says about 300 people have registered to attend, including several who live in nursing homes.
