Tupelo High School’s Justin Long and Oxford High School’s Allyson Conley were each named National Achievement Semifinalists Tuesday by the National Merit Scholarship Corp.

More than 1,600 black American high school seniors were designated Semifinalists in the 46th annual National Achievement Program. They now have the chance to compete for 800 Achievement Scholarship awards worth $2.6 million, to be awarded next spring.

The National Achievement Scholarship Program was initiated in 1964 to recognize promising black students throughout the nation.
