College President Johnny Allen welcomed the students, along with representatives of the county, the city of Booneville, the CREATE Foundation and the Northeast Mississippi Planning and Development District for the program’s rollout.
“This is a day I’ve been looking forward to for over a year,” Allen said. The program demonstrates the “confidence leaders have in Northeast to provide you with a quality post-secondary education, and confidence in you as future leaders of Prentiss County and the region.”
The tuition assistance program mirrors those offered in other Northeast Mississippi counties, most of which were announced in 2008.
It applies to students in Prentiss County, Booneville and Baldwyn schools, and is available as long as the students remain in good academic standing with the community college.
Two students at the presentation, Chelsea Garvin of Thrasher High School and Blake Burress of Booneville High School, said their parents welcomed the news that their tuition at Northeast would be guaranteed after other scholarship and grant sources were applied.
“My mom heard about it before I did and was asking me about it,”
