Miss. troopers report 2 fatal wrecks

JACKSON — State troopers responded to two fatal traffic accidents Friday night.

One happened in the Batesville District and the other in the Greenwood District.

Information on the victims was not immediately available.

One of the fatalities took place in Tippah County, WTVA reported. State troopers said the one car wreck happened Saturday morning on Highway 15 near Blue Mountain in Tippah County. Loretta Young, 43, lost control of her vehicle.

The Clarion-Ledger reports Monday Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol issued nearly 5,000 tickets during its annual Thanksgiving enforcement campaign, which began at 6 p.m. Wednesday and ends at midnight Sunday.

Of the citations issued, 112 were for seatbelt violations, 46 for improper child restraint and 90 for DUI.
