JACKSON — Mississippi's tax collections are running 7.3 percent behind where experts originally thought they'd be at this time of year.

Figures released by the state Tax Commission show general-fund collections are $129.8 million behind the original predictions for July through November, the first five months of the fiscal year.

Collections are 9.3 percent behind the same five-month period a year ago.

For November alone, collections for the general fund were 6.9 percent behind original expectations.

Gov. Haley Barbour has already cut $172 million from the nearly $6 billion state budget, and he has said more cuts are coming.
