MEMPHIS, Tenn. — New Memphis football coach Larry Porter has recommended Michigan assistant coach Jay Hopson as defensive coordinator.

Hopson recently completed his second season at Michigan, where he was linebackers coach. He also is a former assistant coach at Mississippi, Marshall, Delta State and Southern Miss.

The recommendation must be approved by the Tennessee Board of Regents.

Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez says he appreciates the contribution Hopson has made to the team and wishes him success with Memphis.
