Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen has another opening on his defensive staff.

After three seasons in Starkville, defensive line coach David Turner has left MSU for a job at Kentucky under new head coach Joker Phillips. It’s not known what position Turner will coach, but an MSU team spokesman confirmed the news Monday after the Clarion-Ledger first reported it.

Turner did not return a call by the Daily Journal seeking comment.

Mullen also has a defensive coordinator vacancy to fill after Carl Torbush’s departure for Kansas last month. According to Turner’s hometown paper, the Sanford (N.C.) Herald, he spoke with Mullen about that position.
