TUPELO – Loren Scott’s look into his crystal ball shows a national economy on the mend.

Scott will share his insights Wednesday at the annual Northeast Mississippi Forecast Conference at the BancorpSouth Conference Center.

“I’m going to share the forecast of economic recovery for 2010 and 2011,” said Scott, who is president of Loren C. Scott & Associates, an economic consulting company whose clients include BellSouth, Capital One Financial, Entergy, ExxonMobil and J.P. Morgan Chase.

The good news, Scott said, is that “the worst is over.”

But he said lessons should be learned from the longest economic downturn since the Great Depression.

“One of the things we’ll also teach at the conference is the principles of economics to help people understand what’s happened,” he added.

Scott said his speech will cover several topics, including the housing market, energy and inflation.

He also will tackle what he sees as anti-business legislation being pushed by the Obama administration.

Joining Scott at the conference will be Phil Hardwick, coordinator of capacity development at the John C. Stennis Institute of Government at Mississippi State University.

Hardwick will talk about the economy on the state level.

And to discuss the state of the local economy will be CDF Chairman Chris Rogers.

Scott, who also taught at LSU for 33 years, also will talk a little about the condition of the Mississippi economy.
