SHANNON – Police are investigating a fatality that happened on Highway 145 in Shannon on Saturday night involving a pedestrian and a vehicle.

The man was indentified as Melvin Houston of Okolona died when he was hit by a vehicle, according to WTVA.

Lee County Coroner Carolyn Gillentine-Green said Houston, 36, from Okolona was hit by a vehicle while crossing the highway. Gillentine-Green said Houston was transported to North Mississippi Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 6:30 p.m.

Houston was killed just south of where 16-year-old Shannon High School student Sadarius Johnson was struck and killed by a tow truck in December.
