Lee County teams failed to get that one vital win at Saltillo High School, while the Oxford Chargers ran past the West Point Green Wave 77-52.
All winners Tuesday in 2-5A will be in Friday’s tournament championship contests, and have qualified for next week’s North Mississippi Tournament.
“Once we settled down, and once we started using our teammates on the offensive end, it started working for us,” Oxford coach Drew Tyler said. “The scoring load was spread out tonight.”
With sharp-shooter Dee Wallace draining 3-pointers, that helped the Chargers (17-10) moved to a 44-24 halftime lead. Wallace led four Oxford players in double figures with 17; Gary Hughes paced West Point (7-13) with 13.

It was a tight contest throughout, the Lady Chargers led going into the fourth quarter 37-34.
The score was tied at 41-41 with 3 minutes, 26 seconds to play on a Brittany Smith basket for Oxford.
But the Lady Trojans made seven free throws down the stretch, and defensively thwarted the Lady Chargers to claim the win.
“We were able to fight back tonight,” said Oxford coach Shane Linzy, whose squad trailed 31-27 in the third quarter. “We did get away from attacking the basket in the fourth quarter.”
D.J. Sanders paced the Lady Trojans with 16, and Ericka Sisk scored 16 for Oxford.
(B) New Hope 64, Saltillo 49
The Tigers were hanging close until late in the third quarter when New Hope (23-3) used a 7-0 run that included the opening basket of the fourth period to gain control at 44-30.
“In spurts we played will,” Saltillo coach Jason Arledge said. “At the same time, we were inconsistent.”
Raymond Walters tallied 20 for New Hope, while Trevor Boren and Jalen Gasden hit 14 each for Saltillo.
