MBN Director Marshall Fisher said agents charged 27-year-old Derik G. Pannell, of 197 Sunrise Drive in Pontotoc, with possession of precursors.
Pannell’s current drug charge stems from a “shake and bake” lab, lye, lithium battery casings, lighter fluid and other items agents discovered at Chesterville Cemetery in Pontotoc County and traced back to him, Director Fisher said.
Pannell was transported to the Pontotoc County Detention Center, where he was being detained for the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
Bond has been set as $20,000.
The Pontotoc County Sheriff’s Department, Itawamba County Sheriff’s Department and Mississippi Department of Corrections assisted the MBN in the two-day investigation.
Pannell’s arrest is part of an ongoing statewide law enforcement assault on meth labs.
Last year, 603 methamphetamine labs were seized statewide. The year before, only about half as many were seized (300), Director Fisher said.
