Authorities are investigating the death of John Holt, 84, of Burnsville, whose body was found in his home by relatives in late December, and an autopsy revealed he had been severely beaten.
However, authorities found no signs of forced entry or robbery.
As this stage of the investigation Chief Deputy Jamie Reynolds said they are awaiting information from the crime lab to help further the inquiry.
There appears to be no connection, he said, to an arrest made by Corinth police in January where suspects are charged with forging checks on Holt’s bank account.
Linda F. Holt, 51, Holt’s daughter-in-law, and her daughter, Terry L. Sparks, 32, were arrested Jan. 21, according to reports from Corinth Police Chief David Lancaster.
Lancaster told the Daily Corinthian the suspects first cashed a check for $200 on Dec. 22 at the bank’s drive-through window, then returned to cash another check where the amount had been altered.
Both suspects on the forgery charges remain free on bond.
