TUPELO – Tupelo Symphony Orchestra’s “We Love the Piano” concert series at Link Centre will feature the Oxford Piano Trio today.

The group is Stacy Rodgers on piano, Susan Gaston on cello and Robert Riggs on violin. For a little something extra, Michael Rowlett, who plays clarinet, will lend his talents to the concert, too.

“It’s different than anything we’ve done before,” said Peggy Oakes, series coordinator. “This will be chamber music, so to speak.”

The Oxford Piano Trio was formed in 1988, and has a trend of playing both classical and new works. The program, which will last about one hour, will include compositions by Aram Khachaturian, Johannes Brahms and John Mackey.

All four musicians work at the University of Mississippi. Rodgers is head of keyboard studies and accompanying; Riggs is an associate professor of violin and music history; Gaston is an adjunct professor of violoncello and string bass; and Rowlett is an assistant professor of clarinet and music literature.

“Susan Gaston and Robert Riggs both perform with the Tupelo Symphony Orchestra,” Oakes said.

After the concert, Oakes will host a free reception at her home, 2012 Strain Street, Tupelo. It’s off Country Club Road.

“We’re hoping lots of people will enjoy the music in the afternoon,” Oakes said, “and everybody’s invited to meet the musicians afterward.”
