Robin Walton, the owner for 12 years, sold the 28-year-old business to Saltillo couple Neil and Stephanie May. Walton said her heart hasn’t been in the restaurant since her mother died four years ago.
“Mom made most of the food,” Walton said. “My interests went a different way.”
Walton got into real estate and now works for Crye-Leike Realtors.
Neil May said he’s keeping the employees and keeping the menu basically the same. The Mays will test a few new specials, though.
The new ownership does mean changes for the Tupelo Convention and Visitors board of directors. Walton serves as one of two representatives from the Tupelo Restaurant Association. Her term expires in May.
Jim Beane, president of the restaurant association and owner of Bar-B-Q by Jim, said he’s discussed the situation with CVB board president Linda Johnson. He said a new restaurant owner will be nominated in time for the transition.
“It’s a major board and it does take some time every month,” Beane said.
Walton said she’s also working through the transition and has battled frozen yogurt withdrawals in the past two weeks since she turned over the reins.
“It’s the only place I’ve eaten lunch the last 12 years,” she said. “It’s a huge adjustment for me.”
